Turkish Diplomatic Archives

The Turkish Diplomatic Archive is a vital repository that preserves documents and records reflecting Türkiye’s diplomatic history. Our archive consists of written, visual, and electronic documents produced by the units of Ministry of Foreign Affairs or obtained within the framework of diplomatic relations, covering a broad time span from the late Ottoman Empire to the present day. These documents serve as fundamental sources that reveal Türkiye’s international engagements and diplomatic heritage.

The documents in our archive are preserved under secure conditions in accordance with modern archival principles and are regularly organized. Our physical and digital archival efforts aim to ensure the long-term preservation of documents while also making them more accessible. In this context, our archival infrastructure is continuously being developed.

The Turkish Diplomatic Archive contributes to a broader public understanding of diplomatic history by preparing archival publications for the general public. Additionally, conferences, panels, and similar academic meetings are organized for Ministry staff, with the goal of strengthening institutional knowledge through archival documents. These activities ensure that the archive is viewed as a dynamic and productive institution.

Making our archives available to researchers is one of our primary objectives. To that end, approximately 1 million pages of archival documents have been made available to researchers through the Directorate of the State Archives. With the aim of strengthening the concept of open archives, we are resolutely continuing our efforts to increase the number of documents made available.
